| Kumon Ranks No. 1 Tutoring Franchise for the 10th Consecutive Year by Entrepreneur Magazine Posted: 04 Jan 2011 05:37 AM PST American Families Continue to Invest in Education TEANECK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For the 10th consecutive year, Entrepreneur magazine's annual "Franchise 500" issue recognizes Kumon, the world's largest after-school math and reading enrichment company, as the No.1 franchise in the tutoring industry. Kumon also earned the 14th ranking out of all 500 franchises reviewed. This franchise ranking is considered the best and most comprehensive based on objective and quantifiable measures of success, including financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system.
"Our franchisees are educated professionals with a strong entrepreneurial drive seeking satisfying careers helping children," said Hideki Kusuzawa, president of Kumon North America. "We attract former teachers, engineers, lawyers and corporate executives looking for a rewarding, flexible and viable business opportunity." Kumon offers business incentives up to $27,500 and has the lowest franchise and materials fee in the industry at only $2,000. With more than 50 years of experience working to maximize the potential of children, the Kumon franchise system offers stability and a time-tested model for success. Kumon small business owners find the education industry financially and personally satisfying. It is an ideal opportunity for educators looking to work with students individually in an ability-based learning program, corporate executives seeking more satisfying work contributing to their community, and mothers who are ready to return to the workforce in a rewarding career that offers flexibility. Kumon continues to expand as more American families seek programs to help their children excel in school, gain confidence and develop a love of learning. Currently, there are 1,369 franchises in the United States and 1,775 in North America; according to Mr. Kusuzawa, the company plans to open 100 more centers around the country in 2011. The demand for tutoring continues to grow and in the last 10 years, Kumon enrollment increased by 60 percent. In the United States, 226,251 students study Kumon, and a total of 299,682 students are enrolled in North America. Kumon is also seeing an increase in families who are investing in early childhood education. Enrollment in Jr. Kumon, a program for children ages three to five years old, has nearly tripled in the last decade. For the very first time, the company is also seeing second and third generation family members owning centers. Former Kumon students with successful careers in engineering, law or teaching are deciding to leave their professions to open a Kumon Center. In addition, as franchisees retire, centers are remaining in the community and being transferred to new owners, making Kumon a long-term business investment. The initial investment to open a center ranges from $36,538 to $145,250. Interested candidates are invited to visit: www.kumonfranchise.com.
