Student-to-student tutoring |
| Posted: 27 Dec 2010 11:15 AM PST Students at Central Elementary School in Cambridge participated in a peer tutoring program to improve reading fluency. The program focused on first- and second-grade students who would benefit from one-on-one reading with another student. The children were partnered with a fourth- or fifth-grader who served as a peer tutor. The partners met three days a week for 10 weeks and worked on reading with fluency, phrasing and expression. Amy Miller, tutoring coordinator, trained the tutors and supervised the program. A second 10-week session of peer tutoring begins in February. Here, Zakhiyah Houston, l, and Miller read with student Chance Ayres.
