The Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance will receive a $21,000 federal grant to fund a program that will match senior citizens with local students who need academic tutoring.

Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Sacramento, announced the award on Thursday.

The grant was one of 48 awarded across the country by the Corporation for National and Community Service. In Sacramento, the department of human assistance will work with the Sacramento City Unified School District and other agencies on the tutoring program.
