| Posted: 05 Apr 2010 08:00 AM PDT GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Private Tutoring market. The global private tutoring market is projected to surpass $152 billion by the year 2015, driven by the growing desire of parents to secure children's future through supplementary education. Factors such as household income levels, government regulations, and students' learning objectives influence uptake of private tutoring services. San Jose, California (PRWEB) April 5, 2010 -- Tutoring is a key constituent of the global education industry. The industry's growth is primarily attributed to the inability of a standard education system to address the unique needs of each student. Each student differs from the other in terms of comprehension, caliber and ability and existing education system in various countries are unable to offer the required individual attention. As a result, private tutoring has assumed enormous significance, as the approach provides an individual, innovative, and personal education system to students. With higher education being associated with increased opportunities, high remunerations, and improved social standing, parents invest heavily in children's education to enhance future prospects. The United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific collectively dominate the global market with more than 90% share of sales, as stated by the new market research report on private tutoring market. Private tutoring is a thriving industry across Asia-Pacific region, particularly in East Asian countries of Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and China. Demand for private tuitions in several Asian countries is driven by the fact that competitive entrance examinations are critical for gaining admission into leading universities and colleges. In addition, lack of adequate funding for public schools and education systems in developing countries compels students to seek additional knowledge and competence through private tuitions. The increase in school tests and scholarship exams prove beneficial for small tutoring services providers. Private tutoring market in Korea is projected to reach US$13.9 billion by 2012. Online tutoring and offshore tutoring are gaining popularity across the world. Online tutoring is both a supplement and an alternative to physical coaching classes. India has emerged as a key player in the outsourcing of online tutoring services. | Starwood Studios would offer place for musical recitals, academic tutoring Posted: 05 Apr 2010 10:47 PM PDT Bill Conrad, bconrad@acnpapers.com
Starwood Studios, located at the Offices at Byron Nelson, may soon be open to the public if a zoning change request is approved by planning and zoning and the Southlake City Council. Starwood Studios was formed when a former tenant, the Southlake Training Center, moved out last summer. The 4,300-square-foot space was converted to Starwood Studios and is currently used by the buildings tenants for parties and recitals. If the zoning change is approved, the studio could be rented to the general public. Edmondson was clear that the only changes to the building would be in its usage. No changes will be made to the outside of the building or to the building's parking, said Edmondson. The only changes will be made to what is going on inside. Starwood Studios would only operate after regular business hours and would have several uses such as after-school tutoring, seminars, office parties and receptions. The room features couches, big screen televisions and a DJ booth. This would be a unique little space that Southlake really doesn't have, said Edmondson. We have been using this for our tenants, but this will allow us to offer it during the evening and weekend hours to the general public. Edmondson said she believes the studios would have a capacity of 100-125 people, but that number could be adjusted in order to keep within the parking regulations. Another tenant already in the building, Hall Music Productions, would also put the studio to good use.
David Hall, a Carroll High School graduate and owner of Hall Music Productions, said the studios would be a great addition to Southlake. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. Available tools: PDF Newspaper, Full Text RSS, Term Extraction. |
| Tutoring makes a big difference in academic effort for students Posted: 06 Apr 2010 03:23 AM PDT Students will sometimes dread the day report cards come home. Not so for these 10 youngsters of Give Every Child A Chance's Mentor / Tutor program. Thanks to good grades, they were among those graduating from the program during a brief recognition ceremony Monday held at the Antone E. Raymus Education Center. They had made substantial improvement since the beginning of the school year – some were there based on last year's third-trimester report cards, according to GECAC program director Jamie Anderson – going from a "D" or "F" in a major subject area to that of any grade higher than a "C." The major subject areas, for example, consisted of math, reading, writing, and language arts. The mentors are community volunteers. Together with the Manteca Unified School District, they provide those students struggling in the classroom with the opportunity to improve academically while becoming successful lifelong learners. In this case, that's also part of the GECAC mission statement. From here, the students graduating from this program are free to go on their own. "Two or three have already asked to volunteer as tutors," Anderson said. Many of the volunteers are proud to be making a difference. The recent graduates included: Madisyn Kaskewsky (Alexandra Grygo, mentor), Breanna Allen (Ashley Andeola), Jayden Mahler (Dana Vanderlipe), Mariel Diaz (Kimberly Hetrick), Syd'nee Fryer (Justin Linn), Brandon Emens (Hoang Bien), Carlos Perez (Sarabjot Singh), Ildefonso Bettencourt (Luis Sopon), Dustin Alfaro (Jonathan Guillen), and Natalie Marquez (Jasmine James). "Today marked a special occasion," Anderson said. She added that students have been in the program since the beginning of the school year. "From here, students currently on a waiting list will be pulled into the program," said Anderson. If you would like to volunteer to make a difference in a child's life all it takes is two hours a week around your scheduling on Monday-Wednesday or a Tuesday-Thursday.
