Deputies Seek Missing Wales Man
The Erie County Sheriff's office announced Tuesday night that it is searching for the whereabouts of Matthew Watson, a 22-year-old man from the Town of Wales. Family members told deputies on Monday that they had not seen Watson since Thurs., July 8 at about 2:30 p.m. Blue Lantern Continues Efforts for Heart Association
In April, the Blue Lantern in Elma hosted a "Little Black Dress Party," joining forces with other local businesses to raise money for the American Heart Association. The association and its work has special meaning for Blue Lantern owners Tom and Donna Pease; their granddaughter Layla was born with a heart condition known as coarctation of the aorta. Skilled heart physicians in Las Vegas saved Layla's life when she was only four days old. Layla's family then returned to Western New York, where physicians at Strong Memorial Hospital and a team of Buffalo cardiologists and surgeons performed a final fix to her aorta. Dudek Assists in Revitalization Efforts in North Carolina
An Elma native is helping the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in its effort to revitalize the economies of small communities across the state through its internship program, the Carolina Economic Revitalization Corps. Matthew Dudek, a third-year dual-degree graduate student in the department of city and regional planning and the public administration program at the university's School of Government, is working for 10 weeks with the Cape Fear Council of Governments. Dudek will provide research and grant-writing support for the commission as well as offer assistance for community and economic development projects. Marilla Sets Hearing on New Dog Rules
In anticipation of towns taking over dog licensing duties from the state, the Marilla Town Board plans to adopt new regulations to incorporate the changes. The board will hold a public hearing on August 12 for the residents to discuss the new dog law, which will revise the current law by establishing fines and fees along with some other rules for dog owners. Erie County Legislator Dino Fudoli has partnered with the Erie County Sheriff's Department and the New York State Troopers to hold a free car seat safety check. Member of the Aurora Town Board voted unanimously Monday night to approve an amended contract with the Village of East Aurora for police services. The Village Board approved a slightly different version of the deal in June, and the two municipalities have made a few tweaks since then. The preliminary plat (general layout and plans) for a subdivision on Jewett Holmwood Road near Quaker Road received the approval of the Aurora Town Board on Monday night. At the July 12 meeting, board members acknowledged concerns from neighbors and other citizens about the safety of the planned development's entrance, as well as its impact on a nearby stream and adjacent properties.
