Nagasu left here following the Opening Ceremony to return to her home in Arcadia, Calif. She was there when Carroll-coached Evan Lysacek won Olympic gold .

After showing lots and pep and spring in her jumps in practice, Nagasu said she was delighted for Carroll, coaching in his 10th Olympics.

"I'm really glad because he's finally got his champion, and he really deserves it," said Nagasu.

"I congratulated him, and he seemed really happy. He hasn't forgotten it, but now it's my turn to compete and for him to be focusing on me."

The USA's other entry in the women's event, Rachael Flatt, also went home to Colorado Springs after the opening ceremony.

She also returned to practice here Saturday, and she, too, had been excited watching the telecast of Lysacek's triumph.

"I was so happy for Evan," she said. "He skated so well. I watched on the edge of my seat even though I already knew the result."

Flatt, who has applied to nine colleges, said she received a letter recently notifying her she had been accepted to Stanford.

She's waiting for word from other schools, including Princeton.

"I'm really excited," she said of her Stanford acceptance. "I think I want to go into chemical engineering, so we'll wait and see."

TUPELO – A former Saltillo teacher has been indicted on three counts of sexual battery by a Lee County grand jury.

The counts of sexual battery were based on off-campus incidents in late September and early October with a male student, who Johns had been tutoring. The indictments were made public on Friday.

Before she was arrested in October, Johns was suspended from her position as a Saltillo High School English teacher for sending inappropriate text messages to the student.

The Lee County School Board later fired Johns, following her arrest on the more serious charges.
