St. Luke's offering free tutoring for students (Evansville Courier & Press)

NEWBURGH — St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Newburgh is offering free tutoring to elementary and high school students in all academic subjects. Sessions are available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Walk-ins are welcome, but those interested can arrange an appointment by calling the church.

Flint Community Schools seeks students for free tutoring program (The Flint Journal)

FLINT, Michigan -- The Flint School District is hoping to recruit more middle school and high school students into a free after-school tutoring program available through June 30.

Seventh- and eighth-graders at Holmes and McKinley middle schools and ninth- through 12th-graders at Flint Northern and Flint Northwestern high schools who are eligible to receive free lunch are able to participate.

"Each of the four schools has been indentified for improvement because they have not met adequate yearly progress on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)," Joyce Webb, director of the district's Office of State, Federal and Local Programs, said in a news release. "As a result, students attending these schools may be able to receive extra help."

There are more than 2,360 students eligible for the Supplemental Educational Services After School Tutoring, but currently just 645 students are participating.

Tutoring is available online, at the student's home or at provider sites.
